ABOUT KIHAKU SHOTOKAN KARATE

I have been affiliated to the South African Shotokan Karate Academy (SASKA) for the past 28 years under the leadership of the style head and Chief Instructor Hanshi Koos Burger (9th Dan) he is also Vice President of the World Union of Karate Federation (WUKF) and technical director of the International Shotokan-Ryu Karate-Do Shihankai (ISKS)
Kihaku Karate Club is affiliated to SASKA, WUKF and ISKS, this enables our students the privilege to participate and compete in both National and International Championships as well as Seminars.
I am a direct student of Hanshi Koos Burger who is one of the pioneers who introduced Traditional Shotokan Karate and Budo Karate to South Africa in the 1960’s. As a result, Kihaku Karate Club is embedded in keeping true to the foundation of Traditional Shotokan Karate and Budo Karate whilst opening the doors to National and International competition Karate.
The well-respected SAKSA grading syllabus is used to advance students and is designed to test both physical and mental abilities of students whilst adhering to strict discipline and Dojo etiquette.

ABOUT SENSEI GRAHAM CHAMBERLAIN 3rd DAN
Karate is a journey not a race
I started Karate in 1992 in Port Elizabeth and moved to Pretoria in 1993 where I enrolled at the Griffins Karate Club. This is where my continuous journey as a Karate-ka started under the instruction and leadership of Hanshi Koos Burger.
Practicing Traditional Shotokan Karate and Budo Karate has shaped me to become a true practitioner of Bushido (Way of the Warrior) I pride my self in my strong fighting spirit and mindset to never give-up.
I continue to compete at National and International Championships as I believe a balance of competitive and Traditional Karate is imperative in order to teach both types of Karate to students, enhancing their knowledge and experience. I have represented SASKA in numerous World Championships and will again at the 9th World WUKF Karate Championship in Szczecin, Poland this September 2020.
I am also a type 1 Diabetic and advocate towards creating Diabetes awareness. I strongly believe that my Karate training has had a positive impact on my diabetes management and outlook towards difficult and stressful situations caused by Diabetes and work or at home. A healthy body, positive mind and strong spirit is what you can expect form training at Kihaku Karate Club.
